Anna In Print!

I forgot to mention in my last post that I got my first little piece of press. The Skinny magazine, which is a free monthly events periodical, featured my last gig as one of the things to look out for. There was a description of the night and a picture of yours truly to accompany it. I wasn’t even headlining! Excitingly I was contacted independently and asked to supply a press shot. I just sent the one of me in the red dress that I use for all my profile pictures. It is one of the best though it would be nice to get some proper ones done soon.

Eddie Izzard is further down the page so I was in good company. Suffice to say I picked up a few copies though I’m not sure what I’ll do with them as Anna is still kind of a secret and I can’t shout too loudly about it.

I’ll also take the chance to share a few photos from a couple of weeks ago. I had a little rehearsal and I was trying out a couple of new tops and such. The bit of card with @jahsflower written on it was something I did for Instagram. One of the lovely ladies I follow wanted to start a shout out style campaign to promote happiness and well being. She reckons through shouting out to each other and giving and receiving likes and positive comments will make us all feel good about ourselves. I’m paraphrasing of course but you get the idea. I was the first to respond to her and she reposted my pic a week later. I was looking at it earlier on today and viewed the comments underneath with a mixture of amusement and dismay. Some of her regular followers are not happy about her sharing a picture that contains a man dressed as a woman I can tell you. Upon visiting the page of the most outraged one I was shocked to see it mainly contained photos of his gun collection. I bet he wouldn’t hesitate to mow me down if he seen me in person! Frightening stuff 😨

Congratulations on your ink-and-paper appearance! Even in this digital age, there’s still something about appearing in the local magazine/newspaper/rag that feels so confirming in a way.

It’s interesting how some people get so offended and even violent about issues that don’t affect them in the least, like same-sex marriage. They can’t stand to see someone else being free and happy? Misery wants company?? It’s important to share our vulnerabilities within a safe space, but on social media we can’t always control where our content will eventually end up.

I know it’s quite scary, having experienced my content popping up somewhere I hadn’t intented I can attest to that. Sod them, bloody neanderthals! Probably only learned to walk upright that morning 😄 X

Congratulations, and don’t let the haters get you down. 🙂 You look gorgeous, and I really admire you for being so public with your art. I hope I can follow your example one day. xxx

Thank you Eleanor for your kind words. You’re especially good with words so a wee comment from you always makes my day. Hope you have an easy shift this week! xxx

It was a bit of a tough weekend, as my anxiety and irritation is really showing there and gets worse when people try to engage me. I have thankfully managed to reduce my hours, though, and will be looking for some voluntary or intern work in the 3rd sector soon. Friends have been advising me I would be far better working as some kind of advocate, support, or case worker for LGBT / trans causes, and I am thinking they may have a point. x

I’m sorry to hear that! I do have an enormous amount of respect for you, which may sound odd given our purely digital interaction but I stand by it. The advocate idea sounds like a good one and could have numerous positive implications. Not that I would know how one would attain such a position but it’s definitely something to keep in mind! Take care X

That green tinge on my face? That’s jealousy! Well done on appearing in The Skinny!

As for the gun-fondler and the haters? At least you’ll never have to meet them in real life!

Thank you Miss Twist, still coming down from the excitement. I like how loads of folk I know will see it and not realise it’s me!
Gun fondler – that did make me laugh 😄 Thank goodness he’s in another country! X

Anna…did you notice how many followers the gun lover has? He is a speck on Instagram while you are a star. Obviously many, many more people choose to engage with you than they do with rambo. His sparkly ray of sunshine attitude is not working for him. 😉 On a serious note though…these photos are great and CONGRATS on the article. 🙂
